Course Content

This class was taught by Wendy Carpenter.  Wendy was real good about listening to our ideas and getting our opinions on different topics.  She went into great detail about running records.  We practiced them quite a bit in class and with our students during our practicum.  We learned about literature circles - what they are and how to do them.  I really liked the way we used our text books.  Wendy would divide the chapter into four parts and in turn we would each take a section in the chapter to read.  Then in the following class we would tell about our section of the chapter and highlight any important parts. 

Practicum Experience

For our practicum we needed to work with a below level or reluctant reader.  We needed to meet with our student several times during the course of the semester.  I made anecdotal notes, observations, and did running records with my student.  I enjoyed working with my student because she was a hard working ESL student.  I felt a real connection with her right away.
